Round Table: Strengthening Whistleblower Protection Institute in Georgia

On April 6th, 2015 a round table - "Strengthening the Institute of Whistleblower Protection in Georgia" was organized by the Civil Service Bureau, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Sweden.

The Head of the Civil Service Bureau, Catherine Kardava spoke about the importance of whistleblower protection in Georgia. In addition, the Head of the Analytical Department of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, Zurab Sanikidze presented recent legislative amendments regulating the whistleblower protection system in Georgia. The recommendations of civil society on how to address existing gaps and challenges in Georgian legislation were presented to the audience by the Director of IDFI, Giorgi Kldiashvili, who also highlighted the importance of whistleblower protection in a democratic society and discussed the steps to be taken regarding the issue of whistleblower protection in Georgia.

Representatives of the Government, international organizations and civil society got together to discuss ongoing public sector reforms, mainly the whistle blower protection institute, related international practices and recommendations.
